French Toast and Streaky Bacon

April 27, 2018

  • 8 eggs
  • 50 ml milk
  • Salt
  • 4 slices of white bread
  • Butter
  • Streaky Bacon

  1. Beat the eggs and milk together with a pinch of salt and pour into a shallow dish large enough to take two slices of the bread snugly. Soak the bread two slices at a time in the mixture for at least 10 minutes, turning, so that it soaks up all the egg.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt a generous knob of butter over a medium-high heat. When it is beginning to sizzle, add as many slices of the soaked bread to the pan as you can fit in one layer.
  3. Fry on each side for two to three minutes, until golden, then transfer to a plate and eat immediately, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar or drizzled with runny honey or maple syrup.
  4. Streaky bacon cooked until crispy.
